2013 (WCDF) World GAYP Qualifier
October 5th through October
14th, 2013 in Barbados, West Indies
This World GAYP Qualifier (WCDF) WQT event will be held in Barbados, October 5 - October 14, 2013 with prize fund of at least $10,000. More details later on their website. Note there is a festival entry fee ($50 if pre-registered), and an option for on-line registration.
The Ronald "Suki" King International Checkers and Draughts Festival takes place in Barbados at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, October 5 to 14th, 2013. The Festival is divided into four (4) tournaments. These events are open to Masters, Males, Females and Children, who will compete for the Andrew Lewis, Keith Rayside and Pat Alleyne Trophies.
Games & Schedule:
The 10x10 / 100sq Draughts Tournament (October 5 to October 7, 2013 - Morning & Afternoon). This competition is being held in Barbados for the first time and will be played under the rules of the FMJD World Draughts Federation.
The World Go-As-You-Please Qualifier (Men, Women, and Youth - October 8 to October 11, 2013) This tournament is designed by the (WCDF) World Checkers and Draughts Federation to select a male player to challenge Ronald "Suki" King for the Go-As-You-Please World Title which has been held by him for the past 18 years. Whoever wins the female and youth tournaments in this qualifier become the official WCDF youth and female World Champions.
The 8X8 / 64sq Draughts Tournament (October 12 to October 14, 2013 - Morning & Afternoon). This competition is being held in Barbados for the first time and will be played under the rules of Section 64 / FMJd 64 World Draughts Federation.
American vs Barbados (October 11 to October 14, 2013 - Evening). This tournament will feature for the second time in Barbados, a team of players from each country (America & Barbados) competing. Players will be competing for Hazeain King Trophy.
World Qualifier (Barbados) as originally being September 29 to Oct. 5, 2013. The dates of the GAYP World Qualifier have since shifted to October 5-14. Rich Beckwith, WCDF (World Checkers Draughts Federation) President spoke directly to Barbados this week (July 3rd). These dates also include a section for youth (age 18 cutoff) and GAYP woman’s championship. Additionally the draughts festival will host a USA-Barbados international match and some 100-square and Russian-64 draughts. The schedule is still being worked out, but the qualifier may tentatively play toward the end of that date range with prize fund in excess of $10,000. Barbados will release an internet site soon with more details. Associations in good standing with WCDF ($100 or 75 euro annual affiliation) are permitted to nominate 2 players to the qualifier (plus up to 2 woman and 2 youth) to WCDF secretary, John Reade at sue.reade@uwclub.net.
